AN INTRODUCTION TO THE COMPELLING PLOT BEHIND HERO'S REALM
The world of Nerth is a peaceful place, with brave knights, benevolent kings and content people. The Gurus, an association of Wise Old Men and Wise Old Women, kept watch over the world. Everyone was happy.
12 years ago, the great Guru clairvoyant Alistair had a vision...
"I have had a vision," said Alistair, "The Child of Light has been born!"
The Child of Light! While this is great news, it carries with it a dark realization... The return of Mephistocles, the Lord of Demons, is nigh. The prevent a panic across the world, the Gurus kept the vision a secret.
And then...the Void of the World opened. The barrier between the Demon World and Nerth was weakening.
"It is time for action," said the great Guru Grand Poobah Pablo, "Messengers, send word to all the Kings and Queens in all the lands of Nerth. The War of Darkness is upon us - send us your greatest heroes. The Forces of Light needs the bravest warriors, the most talented mages, and the pluckiest rogues if we ever hope to defeat the Forces of Evil."
And so the word was sent out, and the world awaits with bated breath for the return of the Lord of Demons...
Chapter 1: Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children?Rumor has it that the children of Norsland have been disappearing, and the King can ignore it no longer. He sends for the lands greatest tracker to get to the bottom of this mystery.
Chapter 2: There is Something Fishy Going On...The mines are in peril! Before the King of Hasara can send forth its heroes, the trouble at the mines have to be resolved. It is up to a promising magus acolyte to prove her mettle!
Chapter 3: The Land of the Rising SonThe son of the great ninja master takes up the call of Gurus in island nation of Jomongu. He sets off to fight in The Kumite to win the Emperor's favor...
Chapter 4: True CallingA young monk from Indhopal sets off from his monastary, determined to answer the call of the Gurus. But the Sultan refuses the petition! In fact, he has refused all petitions from all the heroes of Indhopal wishing to answer the Guru's call! Something is not right...
Chapter 5: The War on TerrorThe heroes come together to defeat Mephistocles and reseal the Void of the World.

A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE IDEAS BEHIND HERO'S REALM
This is a decidely "old skool" style of RPG. 16x16 charsets are used. FFIV and FFV battlechars are used. FFVI monsters and battle backgrounds are used. And, as you will see in the screenshots, the mapping is a throwback to the Dragon Warrior II, III, and IV style (lots o' black space, 4x4 tiled construction).
At the beginning of each chapter, you will create a party. You start with a predetermined hero class (Hunter, Magus, Ninja, and Monk) and add 3 party members of your own choosing.
The classes are:
|Druid||a balanced healer class|
|Wizard||the master of black magic|
|Mesmer||the master of effect and poison magic|
|Warlock||the master of necromancy and alchemy|
|Black Knight||the master tank with incredibly high HP and able to equip the best weapons and armor with access to some black magic|
|Paladin||an able warrior with access to some white magic|
|Shapeshifter||a fast warrior that can shapeshift into various wolf forms|
|Samurai||an able warrior that can dual wield 1-handed weapons with access to some effect magic and the unique Gold Toss ability|
|Bandit||the master of speed that can Steal and Set Traps|
|Harlequin||the master of songs that can also draw Tarot cards for random and potentially power effects|
|Engineer||the master craftsman who uses Tools in battle and can equip nearly every item|
|Ranger||the master of nature who has a unique ability to cast spells based on location|

A QUICK INTRODUCTION TO THE RM2k3 BATTLE SYSTEM
Hero's Realm uses the default battle system (DBS) of RPG Maker 2003 (RM2k3)
The DBS is an active-time bar (ATB) battle system reminiscent of such SNES era games as Final Fantasy VI. Up to four party members participate in the battle against up to 8 enemies. Each party member's ATB meter fills up at a rate based on the relative agilities of the battle's participants (party members and enemies). When the bar is filled, the party member has the option to perform an action by selection a battle command from the menu in the lower left. Common actions like Fight and Item are available, along with special battle commands based on the class of the character. When an action is performed, the ATB meter resets.
